Introduction
Into the Ether, a new novel with an uncharted premise, is earning 5 star reviews across literary media. Consider this:
Washington, DC is a city like no other. Yes, New York may be the center of American finance, Houston the hotspot for domestic oil, and Los Angeles the hub of the entertainment industry, but DC is home to the politicians, policy-makers and power brokers that make it the most powerful city in the most powerful country in the world. It is within this backdrop that the story takes place.
Adrian Wren is a doctor leading his everyday life until a chance encounter occurs with a surgical patient, John Silverstone, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank. In an instant, Adrian’s life is changed forever.
Few people understand the power anesthesiologists have over their patients. These highly trained medical professionals wield their arsenal of pharmaceuticals not only to make people insensitive to pain and perception, but to disinhibit them, thereby getting them to reveal information that they would normally guard. Just as doctors who, in World War II, compelled prisoners to reveal military secrets with sodium pentothal, Dr. Wren uses his skills in the modern art and science of anesthesiology to find out crucial “Fed” policy information from Silverstone unknown to anyone but the Chairman himself. And that leads Adrian down a path that is both wild and irreversible.
You’ll meet the many characters along the way who both help and hinder the doctor’s plans. And a wild ride it is, taking Adrian to places such as London, Liverpool, the Isle of Man, the Azores, the Mediterranean and the North African coast. Set in Washington, DC, Bethesda, Maryland, Scottsdale, Arizona and the locations listed above, a diverse and compelling set of characters, including The President of the United States, The Attorney General of the United States, The Queen of England, agents of the FBI, an officer of Scotland Yard, a pulitzer prize-winning journalist and various ex-cons and professionals (law enforcement, financial, legal and otherwise), reading Into the Ether will prove to you how hard it is to shut a book and turn the light off.
Anyone with an interest in thrillers, especially involving politics, medicine and finance, will want to read this book. With a fair dash of romance as well, Into the Ether is bound to fascinate you with its technical discussion of anesthesia practice, American securities law, the inner workings of the FBI, the secret projects of the US Government, stock market manipulation, and good old fashioned detective work. If you are looking for a great summer beach or vacation read, you really need to pick up a copy. But don’t take my word for it; read the reviews on Amazon, Goodreads and other sites where the raves just keep coming. Nominated for the 2021 American National Book Award, this novel will most likely earn your vote!

After a career as an anesthesiologist, Dr David Sherer became a consumer health advocate and writer - and now a novelist. His new book, Into the Ether (Armin Lear Press, February 2021),..

traces the story of a burned out, middle-aged physician who gets caught up in a financial scheme and skips the country under a new identity. "I found fiction writing was infinitely more fun," says Sherer, who grew up in Bethesda and now lives in Chevy Chase. "I had a smile on my face when I was writing because I could create whatever I wanted." Still, Sherer continued with his health writing, and in March released What Your Doctor Won't Tell You: The Real Reason You Don't Feel Good and What You Can Do About It, published by Humanix Books.

Great read! Indeed a real page-turner getting to know the enigmatic Dr. Wren who rolls the dice in life. Loved all his adventures and mis-adventures, from the operating room to the high seas,..

and pages turned quickly following a tale of love, ambition, death and intrigue. High stakes thriller from a quiet Washington DC area hospital and superb to dangerous international waters. Very interesting and detailed insight also into a doctor's (and patient's) world with all of it's hard work, glory and frustrations. Anyone familiar with the DC area will immediately recognize many fun local scenes and sites. I hope we see our favorite doctor again!

Dr. Adrian Wren is where many men find themselves midlife - loathing their jobs (even well paid ones), and dreaming of the freedom to pursue what really makes them happy. Wren goes to extreme lengths in pursuit of his freedom, and it's a thrilling one worth going on.
