Into the Ether

Adrian Wren M.D. is a man on the cusp of middle age, burnt out on medical practice, bitter about his alimony payments and resentful of his pig of a boss. A chance doctor/patient encounter with a powerful government official enables him to glean valuable, privileged information, which he uses to turn his leveraged savings into a fortune. In the process, he falls for his financial advisor, settles an old score with an attorney nemesis, and skips the country under a new identity. Once on his new dream yacht, with the help of two Irish sailors, he sails to the Mediterranean where he enjoys life as a newly rich man-until he is betrayed, hunted down, and returned to the United States. To his surprise, he is offered an alternative to prosecution, a deal involving the President of the United States and connected to a crime committed decades before in the slums of Boston.

After a career as an anesthesiologist, Dr David Sherer became a consumer health advocate and writer - and now a novelist. His new book, Into the Ether (Armin Lear Press, February 2021),..

traces the story of a burned out, middle-aged physician who gets caught up in a financial scheme and skips the country under a new identity. "I found fiction writing was infinitely more fun," says Sherer, who grew up in Bethesda and now lives in Chevy Chase. "I had a smile on my face when I was writing because I could create whatever I wanted." Still, Sherer continued with his health writing, and in March released What Your Doctor Won't Tell You: The Real Reason You Don't Feel Good and What You Can Do About It, published by Humanix Books.

Great read! Indeed a real page-turner getting to know the enigmatic Dr. Wren who rolls the dice in life. Loved all his adventures and mis-adventures, from the operating room to the high seas,..

and pages turned quickly following a tale of love, ambition, death and intrigue. High stakes thriller from a quiet Washington DC area hospital and superb to dangerous international waters. Very interesting and detailed insight also into a doctor's (and patient's) world with all of it's hard work, glory and frustrations. Anyone familiar with the DC area will immediately recognize many fun local scenes and sites. I hope we see our favorite doctor again!
